◊ Year-end Party: Once again we have booked 3 pads of ice for our last game of the season and plan to hold the party again at the Ajax Legion and hope to have it catered by Boston Pizza - Ajax. Stay tuned for more information and see your team rep to purchase your ticket.

Boston Pizza - Ajax, sponsors our website. They have joined us in a promotional plan to reduce the cost of our year-end party. It works like this; Players that visit the BP Ajax location for a meal just have to mark "Ajax Oldtimers Hockey" on the back of their receipt and put it in the designated box at the front of the restaurant. Boston Pizza will give the AOHL a 10% rebate !!!

2011-2012 Draft: In our never-ending quest for parity in the League, we tried a new rating and team balancing system this season and we hope it will reduce trades. Of course, we know that despite our efforts, players will retire, get injured or miss games; however, we hope to be able to use the waiting list and a few adjustments to balance teams out. Good luck in the upcoming season and remember, we are here to have fun and give every player an opportunity to play some hockey.

Sad News: I’m sorry to say that Doug Standen passed away on Tuesday May 17th, 2011. Doug played in the Clute division for a number of years and was very active coaching Ringette, playing hockey and playing baseball in Ajax. Doug was a great teammate and competitor. Even when he was on-call from work, Doug always showed up to play on Sunday night, pager in hand, and willingly played any position we asked, just to help the team. He will be missed.

Sad News: It is with great sadness that I bring news of Don Kitchen’s passing on November 10th, 2011. Don turned 80 in early October and was a player in our league for many years up until this fall when illness forced him to retire. Anyone who knew Don, knew him as a true gentleman and a great competitor that knew how to have fun. Don enjoyed his hockey and he usually played 2 or 3 times a week plus tournaments! Don also organized many tournaments so others could compete, enjoy the game, and have a get-together after for all of the players. Don will be greatly missed. The family plans to have a service on November 20th.

Helmets and Facial Protection:
Please note that
Canadian Adult Recreational Hockey Association (formerly the Canadian Oldtimer's Hockey Association) Rule 24 (b) requires that all players wear CSA approved helmets with chinstraps fastened. This applies when players are on the ice, even during warm-ups, and also on the bench.

Facial protection is not mandatory, however, when a face protector is used, Rule 24 (d) states that any face protector be CSA certified and securely fastened to the helmet so as not to cause an injury to the player or any other player.

A helmet or face protector is only considered as CSA-approved if it is not modified in any way and all straps are properly fastened. If the referee notes improper equipment, a minor penalty will be assessed and the player will not be allowed to play until the equipment meets the requirements.

A safety note: Please check your helmet to be sure it is still providing proper protection. Most helmets have a limited life and the foam starts to break down or get very hard. Once that happens, the helmet doesn't protect you the way it was designed to and you may suffer a concussion if your head hits the ice, boards, glass, or another player. All CSA-approved helmets have an expiry date sticker. Any alteration to a CSA approved device destroys the certification.

The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 322 - Ajax presented a Certificate of Appreciation to AOHL Registrar Bernie Jeddry and AOHL President, Paul Robertson on June 10th to recognize the Ajax Oldtimers' contributions over the past 2 years. Our league has contributed $1500 for the use of the RCL-322 hall for our last 2 year-end parties. Based on the response from the players at the party and Annual General Meeting, we hope to have the 2011 party at the Legion also.

Annual General Meeting:  Held on Wednesday April 14th, 2010 at 7:30pm. Carruthers Room at the ACC.  General League business and elections. Check your team rep for more info.
Season's-end Party
was held on March 28th, 2010 @ The Ajax Royal Canadian Legion after our games. A good time was had by all. Next year we have 3 ice pads booked so everyone will be finished by 7:00 and we hope they will join the party!

2010-2011 Season Begins !
Welcome to the new season for the Ajax Oldtimers Hockey League ! We hope you enjoyed your first games of the season. We have a lot of new players this season and quite a few players have changed divisions. However; it looks like everyone has remembered that the objective is to have a good skate, friendly competition and a few laughs. If you are new to the League, welcome! If you didn't know, we re-draft the teams every season, so when you have been around a few seasons, you will have played with quite a few players - and against many of them.  We have many ages and many skill levels in both divisions and everyone gets to play and is entitled to equal ice time. Enjoy yourself - we usually have as many laughs after a loss as we do after a win - well almost as many ;-)  If you find yourself getting too serious, remember, we all make the playoffs and the prize at the end of the year is the same for everyone!

League Structure
A significant number of players in the Kerr Division (age 35+) elected to move to the Clute Division (age 50+)for the 2009-2010 season. The League Executive decided to realign the divisions and have 6 Teams in the Kerr Division and 8 Teams in the Clute Division. The teams were drafted and a number of new players were inducted into the league from the waiting lists to replace players that left the league.

We welcome all of the new players to the AOHL.
